Who serves as the current President of Sri Lanka?
Show answer Hide answer
Answer: A. Ranil Wickremesinghe
Explanation
Ranil Wickremesinghe was chosen by the national parliament to lead the country through a crisis. Lawmakers voted to elevate him to the presidency following intense political and economic turmoil. His extensive political experience made him the choice to stabilize the national government. The president of Sri Lanka serves as both head of state and commander of the military. Ranil Wickremesinghe has previously served as prime minister multiple times throughout his career. The nation experienced significant economic challenges that reshaped its political leadership landscape.
Effective governance is essential when nations face severe financial difficulties and public protests. Parliamentary votes for executive positions occur during rare constitutional transition periods. New leaders must negotiate international financial assistance to restore national economic stability. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was a former president who resigned from office amid widespread public protests. Maithripala Sirisena is a former president of the country who held office prior to the crisis. The option none of these is incorrect because the correct president is named first.
